“…At both ends of the road, To the left and the right…”  -- George Harrison

Key swing independent voters are now the largest voting bloc in Arizona surpassing Republican voters.  Arizonans have watched the current Republican Governor Jan Brewer embrace disastrous economic restrictionism and isolationism that counter genuine free market principles.   Independents have the ability to break away from Republican rule and who have been essentially holding us hostage.  According to a recent poll by Rassmussen Reports, "Doug Ducey earns 47 percent of the vote to Fred DuVal’s 42 percent with approximately 7 percent who remain undecided." It is our intent to convince the 7 percent.
That said, we would like to highlight a man who has demonstrated distinguished leadership and who is running for Arizona Governor.   Words cannot express our gratitude towards candidate Fred DuVal for putting into action his values and principles over politics with his swift reaction against a horrific sexist remark against lawmaker Catherine Miranda.  He did so even though Miranda supported his opponent and we consider this noble and an act towards healing.  It is a rare thing for voters to see this type of  behavior right before election day, and it is our intent to inform fellow women voters, independent voters and moderate Republican voters (who do not vote straight ticket all the time) of this because we believe DuVal is ready to serve us as Governor of Arizona.
DuVal could have simply chosen to look the other way with regard to sexist remarks, but instead took a high road earning him a distinguished place in women’s hearts.  DuVal quickly defended women in a swift manner when no other Democratic leadership rose to the outward public occasion with regard to disavowing the Stonewall Democrats.  DuVal's act will not go unrecongized.  We believe DuVal reacted immediately because he truly recognizes women as equals -- affording the same respect to women as men receive from other men in a male dominated political environment.  For the record, Stonewall Democrats apologized for the sexist remark after refusing to do so upon initial request.
Women have come a long way since the Mark Twain / Votes For Women era, but we still have a long way to go in the way of reducing sexist remarks in the political atmosphere.  Women watched in horror the increase of misogyny when both Democratic Hillary Clinton and Republican Sarah Palin ran for office and we are absolutely hawkish and committed to doing what we can to minimize male chauvinism today and in the future.
DuVal is a calculated risk for Arizona voters because having a Democrat as Governor will help balance out extremism from an already Republican-led state legislature in Arizona. We must balance ourselves from extremist ideas Tea Party Doug Ducey brings to the Arizona table, therefore, we are fully endorsing Fred DuVal for Arizona Governor.

Somos Independents is a national group of key swing independent registered Independent women voters who support bipartisanship in our government that will help solve tough issues.   We are organizing the growing independent registered voter group by getting out the vote with millennial voters, and we realize college-aged students prefer registering themselves as independents rather than choosing a major political party.  We believe in putting people before Party politics.  Co-founders include a former Republican and a former Democratic voter.

White Male Uses Offensive Sexist "C-word" Remark Against Latina Lawmaker in Arizona PDF Print E-mail

Women-led Independent Voter Group Against Recall;  Asks Lawmakers to Disavow Endorsement By Anglo Man Using Sexist Remark Against Latina Lawmaker

He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. John 8:7

Phoenix, AZ --  Somos Independents is an independent voter group led by women comprising of a former long life Republican voter and former long life Democratic voter.  Independent voters are now the largest voting bloc in Arizona, and we believe it is time to blow the whistle against male chauvinist and sexist remarks made against Democratic lawmaker Catherine Miranda. It is unacceptable for Robert Rowley -- leader of Stonewall Democrats, to refer to Democratic lawmaker Catherine Miranda as a "cunt."

Robert Rowley's referring to Democratic Latina lawmaker as a "cunt" is the height of white male privilege perpetuating women of color into believing they have no value. As a Mexican-American / Chicana-led organiztion, we cannot turn a blind eye nor will we allow Anglos to refer to Chicanas and/or Latinas as a "cunt."  We believe Rowley takes away Catherine Miranda's humanity when he referred to her as a body part -- the vagina in the most horrific terms.
Robert Rowley leader of the Stonewall Democrats refuses to apologize for that sexist remark, therefore we implore the below Democratic leaders to disavow their endorsement by Robert Rowley and his organization for refusing to take back that sexist remark against a woman of color.
Furthermore, our independent voter group stands firmly against wasting tax payer dollars on a recall effort being organized against (D) Rep. Catherine Miranda.  Democrats ought to handle their own 'vendetta' messes within the Democratic Party structure -- not at the expense of Arizona tax payer dollars.  We refuse to watch male Democratic public figures "stone Miranda to death" for endorsing a Republican, when they themselves have endorsed Republican politicians, too, in the past.  Our group does not agree with Miranda's endorsement of Ducey, however, we do not agree with hypocrisy and male chauvinistic sexist remarks either.
We implore below Democratic officials to disavow Stonewall Democrats endorsements forthwith.

Suge Knight Shooting - Cops Identify Trigger Man, But Still Can't Bust Him PDF Print E-mail
Written by TMZ

Suge Knight is one step closer to getting justice -- cops now believe they know who shot him 6 times on the Sunset strip ... but they still face a major hurdle to closing the case.
Law enforcement sources tell us they've reviewed security cameras and spoken to multiple witnesses of the August shooting at 1Oak, and while they're confident they've identified the suspect responsible for shooting Suge and 2 others -- they still don't have enough evidence to arrest the suspect.
As we told you .... it's been hard for investigators to get witnesses to open up -- par for the course after a Suge-involved shooting -- and that includes Suge. We're told L.A. County Sheriff's investigators are still looking for that golden witness to come forward so they can make the arrest.

Arizona Democrats Wrong To Recall Rep. Catherine Miranda Wasting Tax Payer Dollars PDF Print E-mail
Written by DeeDee Garcia Blase Somos Independents/CRNLive.com
Wednesday, 22 October 2014 14:59

Allow this write-up to help serve and set a better standard for women who have to guard themselves against misogyny within the political department dominated by men running amuck.

For the record:  I do NOT agree with (D) Rep. Catherine Miranda’s endorsement of Republican candidate Doug Ducey who is running for Arizona Governor. Ducey has produced too much of an anti-immigrant sentiment while running for office during the 2014 Republican primary election.  His economic hypocrisy is sickening considering Cold Stone Ice Cream makes and continues to make millions of dollars from undocumented immigrants purchasing their ice cream.  It is absolutely hypocritical for Republicans like Ducey who claim to be for the free market enterprise system while supporting restrictionism and isolationism with his anti-immigrant messages.  It is clear Ducey does not support a pro growth economic strategy.

That said, (and I say this as a proud independent Arizona voter) I also believe it is hypocritical for Democrats to drag a woman through the mud for supporting a Republican when some of those same Democrats  supported Republican Jerry Lewis who ran against the ousted Sen. Russell Pearce the sponsor for  SB 1070.  Where is that same backlash against Miranda when (D) Leah Landrum Taylor endorsed Republican Reagan for Secretary of State 7 days ago?

Isn’t it the Arizona Democratic Party who prides themselves on Freedom of Speech?  To my knowledge, Catherine Miranda has never supported an anti-immigrant bill and I believe that should go along way with supporters of a recall against her, and/or groups like Citizens For Better Arizona (CBA) who make money from recalls.  In fact, Randy Parraz has history of making approximately 30% of the monies CBA  peddles for off the backs of our already poor Chicano / Latino communities.   The money generated from CBA’s failed Arpaio recall  lacked transparency in their most gross attempt when they claimed to have shredded signatures while begging for money to the last day even though they knew they could not collect enough signatures in that recall.  [In my view, the slap in the face towards women voters  was when CBA supported an unvetted Democratic candidate like Paul Penzone even though Penzone had a domestic violence record in his background.]

What I see is sheer male chauvinism going on in Arizona and I refuse to look the other way to this regard. Why is it okay for men like Randy Parraz and Chad Snow to give their blessing for Jerry Lewis who is a Republican? Do Chicanas and Latinas like Miranda have to receive CBA’s permission to exercise the freedom of expression Parraz and Snow use?

Let me be clear:  There are more women voters than male voters  in our Nation today.  More and more women are growing sick and tired of misogynist tactics and I for one saw a whole helluva lot of that take place when Hillary Clinton ran against President Obama within the Democratic Party, and I also saw male chauvinism within the Republican circles when Senator McCain chose Sarah Palin as a running mate, too.

The hypocrisy women voters have seen in both the Republican and Democratic circles is the reason why more and more of us are becoming independent voters.  Independent voters are now the largest voting bloc in Arizona and in my view, Democratic operatives like Steve Muratore are part of the problem.

According to Democratic blogger Steve Muratore:

The specter of recall already hangs over her head even before she is officially elected to the Arizona Senate. Catherine Miranda, the LD23 Democratic primary election winner — fresh off of selling her soul to the Republican Party followed by endorsing Scrooge McDucey and Michele Reagan — has now recorded a robocall with an endorsement for Jose Penalosa. Having previously run for the 7th District seat as a Republican, Penalosa is now an Independent competing against Democratic candidate Ruben Gallego to succeed retiring Rep. Ed Pastor.

So what if Catherine Miranda is not supporting the Greedy Ruben Gallego?  It was Ruben Gallego who basically dumped on the Arizona Black Brown Coalition anyway during the Reverend Warren Stewart race.   More importantly, Gallego received a significant amount of money from outside Arizona groups and is surrounded by ‘dark money‘ activities.

In my opinion, I see Arizona male politicians who are feeding into this sort of cronyism atmosphere with a goal to create some sort of power group ousting people who disagree with their dictatorship mentality. Therein lies the dangerous mistake these men are making because women have been coalescing stronger and stronger since 2008 elections as a result of the sharp increase relating to misogyny.  Ruben Gallego and Aaron Marquez had better settle their differences with Catherine Miranda withut feeding into a recall that will only cost and waste tax payer dollars.  I see disgusting hypocrisy within the Democratic circles in light of Miranda being pro life, and I refuse to allow these same Democratic operatives to get away with it when they promoted Ruben Gallego who was a former Chief of Staff for Michael Nowakowski — a well kown pro life Democrat.  Where were the pies in Gallego’s face for helping a pro life Democrat to the Nowakowski regard?

It would be a dangerous thing for Arizona Democratic Party (ADP) to support a recall against Catherine Miranda.  Independent voters want to spare Arizona tax payers the drama and wasted resources.  If the ADP supports a recall against Miranda, they will unleash Chicana “fem nazis” like never seen before in Arizona history.  Money would be better spent simply grooming a replacement for Catherine Miranda because what this whole debacle boils down to is Miranda pissing off the Latino good ol’ boy network.  If the Latino good ol’ boy network were so concerned about our gente and our community, why don’t they begin with the Phoenix Police Chief who is more responsible for putting away undocumented immigrants behind bars (moreso than Arpaio himself) or the lobbyists like Molera & Alvarez who profit from the private prison industry?  This would be a good start for these hypocrites.

Aretha Franklin CD of diva classics due Oct. 21 PDF Print E-mail
Written by MESFIN FEKADU

NEW YORK (AP) — Aretha Franklin is showing some R-E-S-P-E-C-T to her fellow divas: The Queen of Soul will release an album Oct. 21 covering classic songs from other female singers.

"Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics" will include songs such as Gladys Knight's "Midnight Train to Georgia," Barbra Streisand's "People" and Whitney Houston's "I'm Every Woman."

The most contemporary track is a reworking of Adele's colossal hit "Rolling In the Deep," which is the first single off the album. It will be available digitally Monday, when the 72-year-old will also perform the song on "Late Night with David Letterman."

"Great Diva Classics" reunites Franklin with longtime collaborator Clive Davis.

"I mean, it is great," he said in an interview. "For her to do all these songs, it's very exciting."

Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and Andre 3000 are among the album's producers. Other songs covered by Franklin include the Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On," Alicia Keys' "No One" and Dinah Washington's "Teach Me Tonight." The icon's version of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" will incorporate some of Destiny Child's "Survivor."

The opening track is Etta James' signature song, "At Last," and Franklin closes the 10-track set with Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U.
