With the south serving up some of the hottest hip hop artist in the game, Native son, conscious hip hop MC FAME from Alabama / Georgia, stands along side the best that have ever represented for Young Black Males and the struggles of street life.
Thanks to underground hip hop testimonials like “Next 2 Kin” and ‘We All Nigga's”, FAME’s style exhibits the harsh realities of those just trying to survive day to day.
“I try and take the keep is simple approach, given no excuse for why anyone couldn’t get what I’m saying” FAME reasons. “I came from nothing - a bastered child, so I know what it feels like to not have what you need”
FAME is continually building buzz off of the recent hip hop release compilation “In the Shadow of an Icon” from Thug Life Army Records. The Southern conscious, and sometimes controversial, hip hop MC is also set to release his highly anticipated mix tape “BAMA SLANG” with the help of DJ Jelly from southern style hip hop DJ’s out of Atlanta, GA.
No matter what is being supplied, a man is only as good as his word. For that FAME has given his word to continue to paint the picture of hope for those in less fortunate situations. “I try to be as real as the problems we are all facing” FAME tells ThugLifeArmy.com. “My music gives options or alternatives to situations” says FAME.
What set FAME’s music apart from the ‘industry standard hip hop’ is his ability to keep it authentic and tell stories thru his rap that address real issues that have been long over looked. FAME believes that Young Black Males issues are far reaching and that there’s a bitter truth in their struggles.
FAME born Durrell Briskey in Montgomery, AL has always known from an early age that there would be days the he would have to walk alone. When he graduated high school he knew his options were slim. Living with a single mother and no father figure, it became obvious that becoming a man was something left solely up to him, so he decided to join the Marine Corps.
FAME spent the next seven years in the Marine Corps learning discipline and exploring what the world had to offer. In 2004 FAME suffered the lost of several family members; including a young cousin only a year apart from him. This was the turning point that forced FAME to realize that things needed to change.
Since exiting the Marine Corps in 2005, FAME has spent much of his time finding his place in his family again, now as a man and being an example for all the Young Black Males he comes in contact with. He realized that for all he’d been given he wanted to give something back. So in 2006 he started his own label Money Made Music Group and his purpose was to give as many Young Black Males a chance to have their own voice heard.
