Latino 96.3 FM's celebrated morning drive show, The Morning Invasion with Joey Medina and Nico Jones announced collaboration with The Latino and African American Leadership Alliance for The Unity Walk Against Racial Violence on Saturday, February 10 at 10:00 AM. The Walk will begin at the Inglewood City Hall, 1 West Manchester Blvd., Inglewood, CA 90301. The Morning Invasion interviewed the Latina hate crime victims on air on Wednesday morning to an incredible response from the community with more than 1,000 call-ins. The three Latinas -- Sandra, 16, Laura, 17, and Stephanie, 18, all Morningside High students -- were walking home from school when they said they were attacked by a group of about 13 or 15 African-American youths at Inglewood Avenue and Hillcrest Blvd. Some of the youths were wearing Inglewood High School paraphernalia, a sister of one of the victims said. As the black boys in the group held them back, the teens said they were kicked and punched to the ground by a group of black girls. The attack in broad daylight finally ended when a passerby threatened to call police and the assailants scattered, she said. The girls insist the attack was unprovoked and believe they were targeted because they were Hispanic, noting their assailants hurled racial epithets at them. Joining the Morning Invasion Team for the walk will be a number of high profile local leaders and other radio personalities from KJLH and other stations. Also, adding their support by joining the Walk will be Hip-Hop artist, Malverde and the true original “World Famous Player”, hip hop’s Arch Bishop Don Juan. Joey and Nico are sending out an invitation to all Los Angeles radio stations and television stations to join them in this important community commitment to non-violence between the races. “When city officials and school officials don’t take attacks on any one person or groups of people seriously, it is my fear that this will create an even greater danger of violence”, states Earl Ofari Hutchinson, a respected leader of the African American community who will be participating in the Unity Walk.
