Gary Revel announced that he has signed a story-rights option with film-maker Producer-Director-Writer William Sachs. The option gives Sachs the inside track to making a movie about Gary’s powerful story of the intrigue, murder and danger he faced as he tried to find the truth during his investigation of the Martin Luther King Jr. assassination.

Sachs has written a screenplay titled ‘MLK’ based on the true story and it includes details of Gary’s 1977 investigation and King’s assassination that have never before been made public. Gary was working with attorneys Jack Kershaw, Mary Noel Kershaw and in association with the House Select Committee on Assassinations.

Elements of the story come directly from the lyrics of the song ‘They Slew The Dreamer’ that Gary Revel and Mary Noel wrote in 1977. Gary shortly made a music recording of the song and released it as a single on the Rebel label. The single vinyl record became the subject of a news-story in the now defunct Nashville Banner newspaper. On the front page the music recording was editorialized as a ‘James Earl Ray Promotion Gimmick’. Gary’s work as an investigator in the case and his belief that the lyrics portrayed, though somewhat symbolically, the truth about the conspiracy in the MLK assassination was not made public and the newspaper never did a retraction of any kind. The recording was released as a cut on the Star City Records Inc. ‘Revel’ album in 1979. The song was published by Acuff-Rose ASCAP arm Milene Music Inc. which has since been bought by Sony Music.

William Sachs became interested in Gary’s story in the late 1990’s. His film credits include ‘Spooky House’ starring Ben Kingsley as well as over a dozen other motion pictures.
