Following the conviction of 80-year-old Edgar Ray Killen for the 1964 murder of three civil rights workers, SHOWTIME is airing a special encore presentation of MISSISSIPPI BURNING. Directed by Alan Parker, the film is closely based on the actual events that led to the disappearance of the three activists and the FBI investigation that unveiled Klan activity in the highest echelons of law enforcement and government in Mississippi.

The film stars Gene Hackman, who was nominated for an Oscar(R) for his role as FBI Agent Anderson; Willem Defoe as Agent Ward; and Frances McDormand, who also received an Oscar(R) nomination for her role as Mrs. Pell..

The 1964 disappearance of the three men, Andrew Goodman, 20,

Michael Schwerner, 24, and James Earl Chaney, 21, garnered national attention

and helped to propel the civil rights movement to the forefront of American

politics.  The case is considered one of the biggest in the South's "Atonement

Trials."

Catch the showing Friday, June 24 at 11:00 PM ET/PT on Showtime
