‘Elimination Theory,’ written by former FBI & CIA spy TJ Byron, alleges his story of being involved as a double agent and informant in the mid-eighties for the FBI, CIA, and the Republic of South African Intelligence. According to ‘Elimination Theory,’ during the height of the U.S. arms embargo against South Africa, the apartheid-era regime was developing a covert biological warfare program called “Project Coast.” It was started in 1981 to develop offensive and defensive chemical and biological weapons to be used by security forces to control the black population and for operational use in the Angolan War. It was also developed to manufacture protective clothing and antidotes against chemical and biological agents for the white population and the SADF troops. Project Coast was a program that had the purpose of protecting the white community in South Africa by eliminating most of its black population, and containing its opponents at its borders. The book describes Mr. Byron’s experience as a young man who approached the South African government about financing the manufacturing of a special hearing aid he’d developed while working at a drug company. He set up a meeting with the Government Consul in Los Angeles to talk about funding possibilities. The government saw the opportunity, through Mr. Byron, to develop a relationship with U.S. drug companies to help its development of biological and chemical agents. This was the beginning of Mr. Byron’s involvement in the inner world of South African Apartheid politics and Project Coast. As his relationship deepened with the South African government, the FBI and CIA recruited Mr. Byron to spy for his country and report on the development of Project Coast’s biological and chemical agents. Mr. Byron did as he was asked for a number of years, but was continually shocked when his reports about the development and transfer of these agents were not stopped by the U.S. Government, even though it was aware of what was happening based on his reports to the FBI and CIA. ‘Elimination Theory’ reveals some other startling concepts that Mr. Byron says he witnessed during his involvement with Project Coast, including the suggestion that the HIV epidemic in South Africa could quite possibly have been created and released in the country by Project Coast.
