September 13th of 2006 marked the 10 year anniversary of the passing of hip hop icon Tupac Shakur (2Pac). In Stone Mountain Georgia on that day, there was a tribute to the fallen hip hop icon at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Arts Center. In the Peace Garden Tupac’s (2Pac) mother, Afeni Shakur was present, along with other family members, to celebrate the life of her son and our most beloved Tupac. It was an emotional day and the pictures below will show how much Tupac meant to so many, including his mother Afeni. The loss of Tupac is not only a loss to the hip hop community and culture but to everyone Tupac (2Pac) touched in his short life. A parent wants to see their children grow and develop into righteous human beings who make their presence in the world notable or at least watch as they participate in making the world a better place. Unfortunately, also parents never think that their children will pass from this world before them. It is a real nightmare when a child passes before their parents. There seems to forever be a void there, and notably so. In the case of Tupac and Afeni, the sadness is evident but the actions that Afeni Shakur has taken to insure that her son’s mission on this earth is still carried out are notable. Hip hop lost an icon, a brother, a truly intelligent young black man – Afeni on the other hand lost her son. A part of her legacy left this earth before his time and that has to be hard on the mother of the beloved hip hop icon. Not blaming hip hop or being bitter about the loss of Tupac, the pictures show her pain, her love for her son and her actions in the preserving of her sons legacy shows her strength and the willingness of a mother to not let her son be forgotten or his mission here go un-finished. We hope you enjoy the pictures of the day September 13th, 2006. It has been 10 years and the love the hip hop community has for Tupac continues on and his legacy continues to grow – thanks to his mother Afeni Shakur. We would like to thank her for all she does for all of us who have love for Tupac. She has never turned her back on the hip hop community and we should all respect and support her for that. Please visit and support Afeni and the work she is doing: http://www.tasf.org And watch for the new Tupac album dropping in late November 06.
