The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts (TASCA), which is named after one of hip-hop cultures most beloved rap icons Tupac Shakur (2Pac), has announced an open call to fill the coveted remaining slots for this year’s annual Performing Arts Program. (The open call will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2006, from 2:00 – 8:00 PM at the Tupac Center for the Arts – located at 5616 Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain, GA. 30083. The program is open to teens ages 12-18. Founded by Afeni Shakur, the mother of the late hip-hop culture rap icon Tupac Shakur (2Pac), in 1999 initially as a Summer Camp, the Performing Arts Program has grown to a year-round program, offering top-quality training and support for youths wishing to develop their creative talents. Art disciplines have included Acting, Creative Writing, Dance, Vocal Training, Set and Stage Design, Entertainment Business and Video Production. The skills acquired by the students throughout the Program’s intensive training period culminate in the realization of a Theatrical performance. This year’s play titled ‘Shoulder’s Of Giants,’ is scheduled for Saturday, July 29, 2006 at the Rialto Center for the Arts. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Center at 404-298-4222. The TASF Performing Arts Program has become a major force in performing arts training around the world. The TASF students have performed on Fox’s Good Day Atlanta, the 2002 Source Awards, with Grammy award winner Regina Bell, and at many festivals & community programs. Audition Information Date: Sunday, April 30, 2006 Time: 2:00pm-8:00pm Location: 5616 Memorial Drive, Stone Mountain, GA 30083 Criteria: Age: 12 - 18 Must come prepared for the following: Dance: - Learn and perform choreography (8 count) in Hip Hop - Learn and perform choreography (8 count) in Modern - Freestyle (Optional) Must bring your own music Vocal: - Must perform 8 bars of a song of your choice Drama: - Must perform a monologue, poem, or spoken word piece.
