Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis
eBay bidders have the opportunity to purchase lunch with 2004 Kennedy Center honorees Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee. Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee have excelled as collaborators and as individuals (they married in 1948), and they often broke new ground for African Americans. They made their film debuts in 1950 in No Way Out and starred together on Broadway in A Raisin in the Sun. Davis and Dee were celebrated as "national treasures" when they received the National Medal of Arts in 1995. In 2000, they were presented with the Screen Actors Guild's highest honor, the Life Achievement Award. They received the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Silver Circle Award in 1994 and are inductees in the Theater Hall of Fame and the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame. eBay's Apollo Theater holiday charity auction will run through January 15 2005. Other items up for bid include; two VIP passes to the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Launch Party in New York City with access to the VIP Model Lounge and a backstage meeting with the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover Model and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Search Winner, two tickets to The WB All Star Summer Party where the lucky bidder and a guest can party with the hottest young stars on television at one of the hottest night spots in Los Angeles, two tickets to an HBO fight in Las Vegas, along with two tickets to the HBO after-party and tickets to the production dinner and signed boxing gloves, four tickets to the premiere of New Line Cinema's movie Monster-in-Law which also includes airfare and hotel for four. The legendary Apollo Theater is so much more than an historic landmark -- it is a source of pride and a symbol of the brilliance of American artistic achievement. From 1934 when the Apollo first introduced its world-famous Amateur Night which launched the careers of legendary artists like Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, Michael Jackson, D''Angelo and rapper and hip hop artist Lauryn Hill, the Apollo has maintained its position as the nation's most popular arena for emerging and established black and Latino performers. No other institution has had a greater impact on the entertainment industry and world culture as a whole. Entertainers from Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones to the modern rock bands of Korn and The Strokes, have all been inspired by the legends who have emerged from the Apollo Theater.
