Marvin Van Peebles, best known for writing, directing and starring in Sweet Sweetback's Baad Asssss Song (1971) and for pumping out several eclectic soul-funk-jazz-rap albums since the late 60s, is joining the ranks of Stones Throw Records. The author, filmmaker and playwright will collaborate with rap artist, hip-hop DJ and producer Madlib for a double-album this summer, the first disc of which will mix the sound of Van Peebles's Br''er Soul (1969) with Madlib's smoked-out alter ego Quasimoto Quas has been compared favorably to hip-hop rap artists RZA, and Kool Keith. He definitely adds flavor to mainstream rap. The second disc will feature Madlib remixes of their collabo.
