Rap artist Sadat X, known for relating messages inspired by the Five Percent Nation thru the music of the hip-hop group Brand Nubian, was arrested Thursday in New York. Police have charged the politically and strong minded rap artist with criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest. Police officials say the rap artist, whose government name is Derek Murphy, allegedly said "I''m going to kill everybody" and then pulled a loaded .40-caliber Beretta handgun on a group of youths at the corner of West 158th Street and Broadway. If art really imitates reality then X’s 2000 EP release ‘The State of New York vs. Derek Murphy’ was truly a prophecy of things to come. He was arraigned Friday in Manhattan Supreme Court on the charges. No trial date has been announced. |
