The first of annual MC battle series featuring performances from local Riekes Center and Boys and Girls Clubs

On May 7, 2005 from 1-5 pm, the Academy of Hip Hop at the Riekes Center for Human Enhancement is proud to announce that it will host Mindgames: An Emcee Battle. This contest will be a high level test of emcee skill that will consist of both a 32-man one-on-one tournament as well as an eight-team 2-on-2 battle.

Mindgames will feature performances from some of the most cutting edge independent rap artists in the Bay Area including Dem-One, GTA, D Labrie, Big Murph and many more. It will also host some of the finest names in West Coast battles challenging artists in both the individual and team formats. The prize is $1000 for the one-on-one battle and $300 for the team battle.

The event will also feature special performances from students of the Riekes Center’s Academy of Hip Hop and students of the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula. Teen Program Director at the Boys and Girls club Porscha Williams says, “Hip Hop really has a positive impact on our youth, and it is amazing to see organizations like ours really coming together to celebrate the work of our youth.”

The Riekes (pronounced Ry-kiss) Center for Human Enhancement is a nonprofit organization that has provided world class comprehensive sports training for youth, amateur, semi-pro, professional and Olympic athletes in baseball, basketball, football, track and field since the late 1970s. They also provide youth mentoring programs that involve sports, the creative arts, and nature studies.

The Academy of Hip Hop is a program that allows students of the Riekes Center and members of the community to explore the four elements of Hip Hop through classes and events such as Mindgames that showcase the finest in Hip Hop competition. Academy of Hip Hop Director and Co-Founder and host of the event Shamako Noble comments, “We are very proud of the quality and impact of our programming and Mindgames is sure to host the most skilled emcees in the state. We’re positive that this title will come to mean something in the Hip Hop community. “

Mindgames will be held in the Riekes Center for Human Enhancement, located at 3455 Edison Way in Menlo Park, CA from 1-5 pm on Saturday, May 7, 2005.
