Major hip-hop, rap and recording artists and stars from all genres of music, that are signed to major record labels; are not the only ones that are using their talents and money to help out with the struggling victims of Hurricane Katrina. Unsigned artists are trying to make their contributions by doing their part to help with the disaster relief. Many of these artists have released singles and used all the proceeds to donate the money to a charity for the victims of hurricane Katrina. Some artists are trying to put together concerts as well to raise money. One of these independent artist planning to make numerous donations is singer/songwriter, Evin Gibson. “As an independent artist, there are a lot of limitations on what you can do in terms of helping others with your music,” says Gibson. “It takes a lot of budget to get a project off the ground, but I want to do more than just donate to these people that are in need. Many of us ( unsigned artists ) want to use our gifts to help make a difference.” Gibson is an award-winning R&B/Pop star that is rising to this dramatic challenge. “It’s not only about raising money, but it’s also about putting hope out there to our people. They have to see us doing this and they have to know that we are trying to help,” he continued. Gibson is making plans to put together a concert (featuring many of his peers in the surrounding North Carolina area ) that will raise money and awareness in October. “I know that it won’t be a problem getting the support and the venues that are needed. I am going out on a limb and putting it out there that we want to help and are asking everyone that can help to follow suit,” he says. He is teaming up with Doggeye Entertainment and Amanda Finegan to help with the organizing of the project. Those familiar with Doggeye Entertainment know that they are the home of Rawdeezel and GC Boyz, some of the hottest unsigned hip-hop and rap artists out there today. And that is just not hype. You can hear some of their joints at the Doggeye Entertainment web site along with joints from Evin Gibson. Gibson is asking for support from local recording artists, venue owners, promoters, radio personnel, and anyone in the surrounding area that can help pull this concert together. “There is a lot involved in putting together a concert, but if everyone wants to do it then it will be a piece of cake. The talent is here and we are willing to perform. They need our help and it’s the least we can do. I won’t stop until we raise as much money as we can,” Gibson promises.
