Tech’s free project/mix CD ‘The Martyr’ has been downloaded a remarkable 500,000+ times since its release late last year. Visit http://www.viperrecords.com/ to download the entire album.
Viper Records artist Tech (born Felipe Coronel,) is one of the most dynamic figures in hip-hop. He has sold over 250,000 albums, has videos with over 7 million views on YouTube, and is long known as a no-holds-barred songwriter, a freestylist to be reckoned with and a social activist/commentator who pulls no punches. Here’s a recent MTV News interview segment, timed to the release of ‘The Martyr’: http://www.mtv.com/videos/news/707072/mixtape-daily-immortal-technique.jhtml
The Utne Reader featured Tech’s track ‘Civil War’ in their monthly music sampler, commenting: “What happened to radically political, walk-the-walk, anti-authoritarian hip hop? Like Immortal Technique’s new mixtape, The Martyr (Viper Records), it’s lurking in the underground. This banger features Killer Mike, Brother Ali, and a special appearance by Public Enemy’s Chuck D.” http://www.utne.com/Utne-Reader-Music-Sampler-November-2011.aspx
Harlem resident Tech premiered the track ‘Toast to the Dead’ on DJ Eclipse’ radio show. The track is produced by J. Dilla, with cuts from DJ Green Lantern. Listen to the song, and read a great early review, here: http://www.refinedhype.com/hyped/entry/immortal-technique-toast-to-the-dead/
Tech was recently the subject of ‘The (R)evolution Of Immortal Technique’, a revealing documentary by Director Cary Stuart. The acclaimed film, which premiered at The Harlem Film Festival, showed Tech to be as altruistic a person as he is relentless as a performer, as it conveyed the artist’s more benevolent side. The film, which won the Festival’s ‘Spotlight Award,’ captures Coronel when he isn’t on stage or in the studio, and was shot from 2004 through 2011 in Afghanistan, Peru, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Amsterdam, France, Spain, London, Morocco, Columbia, Venezuela and elsewhere. Stuart’s documentary serves as a three-dimensional portrait of an artist who has mined a life of hard knocks and hard work to reach what may very well be a breakthrough year in his promising career. ‘(R)evolution’ will soon be available on the Viper site with additional outtake footage.
