Damion Butler, a manager for female rap artist Lil'' Kim, pleaded guilty Friday to participating in a shooting outside a radio station, leaving the rap diva and two others to stand Feb. 28.
Lil'' Kim, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, is charged with conspiracy, obstruction, perjury and lying to a federal grand jury investigating the Feb. 25, 2001, shooting outside Hot 97 in Manhattan that left one man wounded. Prosecutors contend that Butler and Suif Jackson, who is serving 12 years after pleading guilty, fired upon members of rival hip-hop rap artist Foxy Brown's entourage. Prosecutors said the shooting stemmed from a long-simmering feud between the two hip-hop rap artists. Butler, 33, who has three previous weapons convictions and is currently incarcerated on an unrelated state case, faces from 57 to 71 months in prison when sentenced May 6. He admitted Friday that as a convicted felon he fired a handgun outside the radio station "with the intent of hurting someone." He also pleaded guilty to conspiring to obtain and traveling under a passport that had his photograph but another person's name. He could have faced up to 15 years in prison had he been convicted after trial. |
