On October 18, 2010, Young Money recording artist Nicki Minaj supposedly released a press statement terminating Diddy (aka Bad Boy Sean “Puffy” Combs) as her manager. The press release also stated that she was not happy with the way that Diddy was representing her as a client and compared his poor management skills to being managed by a mother. She did give Diddy thanks for everything he had done for her and wished him well with his new client, rapper Rick Ross. She had allegedly hired Benny Medina, who currently manages singer Jennifer Lopez, to become her new manager. After the press release hit the news, members from Minaj’s camp came out stating that the press release was a fake and the information was not true. Thru her Twitter account, Minaj went on to say everything was well with her and that she has never met Benny Medina. However, it appears that Diddy is only providing guidance about the hip hop industry to Minaj. During an interview with Funkmaster Flex later that week, he talked about his business relationship with Minaj. According to Diddy, he doesn’t consider himself to be Minaj’s full time manager because she handles a lot of her business on her own. He also stated that he just considered himself to be one of the team players that helps her, he apparentlydoesn’t go around calling himself her manager. Debbie Antney, who is the mother of rapper Wacka Flocka Flame, used to be Minaj’s longtime manager before Minaj fired her in April 2010. Currently, Minaj’s new album “Pink Friday” is scheduled to be released on November 22, 2010. The release date was moved up from November 23, 2010 and will compete with other major hip hop artists such as Kanye West and Jay-Z, who are also releasing their albums on the same day. |
