The 25-year-old son of Grammy-winning R&B singer Chaka Khan, Damien Patrick Holland surrendered to police Monday after he learned that prosecutors had charged him with murder in the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy, police said. Mr. Holland was taken into custody after the shooting on Sept. 24th 2004, which took place in an apartment in south Los Angeles, but was released several days later when prosecutors said they didn''t have enough evidence to press charges. Sgt. Catherine Plows said. Surrendering with his attorneys at his side at the Pacific station in Venice, and according to a printed LAPD statement he is being held on $2 million bail. A LAPD news release says detectives located witnesses to the murder, which led to the district attorney filing charges. Chaka Khan, born Yvette Marie Stevens, is best known for her hits "I Feel for You" and "I''m Every Woman." The R&B diva performed in August with hip-hop rap artist Kanye West at the MTV Video Music Awards. |
