Having worked with almost everyone in hip-hop and rap, from west coast icons like Tupac Shakur (2Pac) Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Ice Cube, George Clinton, Stevie Wonder and Cypress Hill's B—Real; to newer artist like Mike Jones, the name of Long Beach native Warren G is synonymous with great music and lasting hit making music. Half brother of the legendary rapper / hip-hop producer Dr. Dre and a member of hip-hop / rap group 213, along side Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg; – Warren G has built his career on talent, not just because of who he knows.
Warren G's newest single, “I Need A Light,” featuring Nate Dogg, premiered worldwide on MySpace.com on January 24, 2006 and reached 35,000 plays in two days. Video and audio ringtone downloads will be available internationally beginning next week. “I Need A Light” recognizes that there is a lot of stress in today's world and focuses on the importance of finding peaceful ways to deal with problems. The song is an autobiography that touches on the pain Warren dealt with in the ghetto while he struggled to amount to something. Warren says, “I Need A Light'' is a song to listen to if you are stressing over something. The hook makes you feel good. In the lyrics I''m talking about growing up in Long Beach and some of the things I went through.“ While Nate Dogg and Warren have worked together on several projects, Nate Dogg was especially excited to work on this song. “This song is a lot deeper than other songs we have done together. It's about how when you''re going through troubles, people deal with stress differently. Like, I have so much going on that I just need to relax. That's what I was talking about when we wrote the song. There's just so much stress going off.“ The music video has a 1940s period feel with contemporary flair. It opens with a look at Long Beach during Warren's childhood. The scene focuses on young Warren, Snoop and Nate. The video then follows the lyrics of the song literally. Paul Hunter directed the video with Kevin Hunter as his second director. Paul Hunter explains his vision, "The tone of the video shows the classic side of Warren -- how he built his empire from the streets of Long Beach and expanded it to the world. He is showing everyone that it's all about class and treating people right. It's about the classy style of hip-hop." This track is mellow yet upbeat and is sure to have everyone feeling its beat. Warren is currently preparing for a nationwide tour to support the new album. Look for Warren G’s album In The Mid-Nite Hour Track Listing - 1. Intro Shhhhh 2. We Need Each Other feat.
