Hip-hop rap lyricist Talib Kweli and Jaguar Wright are slated to join headliner, hip-hop rap artist Mos Def and others to perform on August 7th at the 8th Annual Black August Hip-Hop Benefit Concert in NYC. The concert is sold out at Ticketmaster, a month before the show. Known as the largest annual benefit concert in Hip Hop, Black August 2005 has sold out on Ticketmaster.com as of this morning and is shaping up to be one of the hottest Hip Hop benefit concerts this summer. This year’s concert theme promotes HIV/AIDS prevention awareness in Africa and the Hip Hop Community. Jaguar Wright will join and Talib Kweli will continue along with Mos Def, Black Moon, Smif N Wessun and this year’s growing performance roster in a rich tradition of major recording artists who have donated their time and talent to perform for Black August as a means to champion and raise funds for causes that are held dear to the Hip-Hop community. Previous Black August performers have included Fat Joe, Erykah Badu, David Banner, Common, The Roots and many others. The August 7th NYC concert will be held at the legendary B.B. Kings Blues Club in Time Square. “Black August is an outlet that continues to provide a voice to those who consider themselves voiceless in this world, says Black August co-coordinator Meron Wondwosen. “We are excited to have Talib Kweli and Jaguar Wright on board to lend their talents to shout for the millions of young people in Africa and the Hip Hop community that are struggling with HIV/AIDS."
