A while back I had done an article on the interview between rap star 50 Cent and Hip-Hop DJ Funkmaster Flex. So here is the follow up.
It was the interview that many people spoke about because of the way that it went down. A quick recap of the story is that 50 Cent had joined Flex on his radio show on Hot 97. Supposedly bringing his new track called “Piggy Bank” with him for Flex to play. Well, after playing with the listeners for a couple of hours the track never got played. Flex also went on to claim himself as the peacekeeper of Hip-Hop and state that he was not into supporting beef. He also made the comment that this track “Piggy Bank” was such fire that he would never play it.
Flex has been in the middle of a couple of other situations lately. It was on his show that the beef between Jay-Z and the G-Unit’s Game was sparked. He also made headlines for himself when he sparked a bit of a controversy between himself and Busta Rhymes when he leaked a track from Busta’s upcoming album. So which character are you going to play Flex? You could use your status and seniority in the game to truly step up and take the stand you claim to from time to time. Then again you can continue to flip flop your beliefs and continue to show that the only thing that matters to you are your ratings.
Well in the article I had wrote that Flex was playing himself and it was only a matter of time before he was spinning this track and that it would become one of his new favorite songs to play. Last night Flex did not make a fool of me, he actually made a fool of himself. Flex did not only play the track once but he played it twice back to back only taking a break in between to read quoted statements that he had gotten from 50 Cent, Jada Kiss and Fat Joe.
Flex read the statements on the air saying that when he asked 50 about the song the reply was, “ If you stand to close to the enemy your gonna get hit with fire”. When asked about how he felt about the track Jada Kiss replied, “Guilty until proven innocent and all violators will be prosecuted”. Fat Joe’s response was basically put that his answer will be in a track on his new album All or Nothing. He will not mess with mix-tapes and this will be the one and only response to the song.
So 50 is getting exactly what he wants, or is he? Fat Joe is set to respond but lets just hope that he sticks to what he said only drops one track on the new album and than leans back. Jada’s comment pretty much hints that he will respond and who knows where that will lead. The real heavy hitter Nas was left out of the list last night and that was disappointing in a way. Out of all the names that 50 shouts in this new song Nas is the one that most people would love to see get it on with 50. He is the one that could teach 50 a valuable lesson in respecting his elders in the game and to think before you speak once in a while.
Well battles are a part of Hip-Hop music and culture. When done the right way they can create hit records and make things really entertaining. Some of the greatest artists from the past and present have had battles that will always be apart of Hip-Hop history. Eazy E and Dr. Dre both from the notorious group NWA did battle a while back leaving behind hit records. Nas and Jay-Z more recently went a couple rounds making songs that will never be forgotten. The difference is that the Legends that do it don’t make a practice out of doing it every time they open their mouth.
There is a week left before 50’s highly anticipated sophomore album The Massacre is released. It is highly anticipated by different groups of people though. There are those people that don’t know better and think 50 is the hottest thing to touch Hip-Hop. There are those that feed heavily into the beef and the I got shot nine times that want more. Then there are the doubters that don’t think 50 can fill the shoes he bought himself when he dropped Get rich or Die Trying.
