In celebration of Black History Month, February 2007, PBS will broadcast a great lineup of new and encore presentations honoring and exploring African-American history.

Included in the PBS line up is the film "Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes".

"Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes" is an in-depth look, through the lens of former college star athlete Byron Hurt. "Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes" takes a look at the sexism, violence and homophobia in rap music and hip-hop culture.

Hip Hop culture and rap music are explored for where creative genius, poetic beauty and mad beats collide with misogyny, violence and homophobia. This film takes an in-depth look at machismo connected to rap music and hip-hop culture.

This INDEPENDENT LENS presentation "Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes" by Byron Hurt will air on PBS Tuesday, February 20, 2007, 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET
