"Make Hip Hop Not War" National Tour Presented By: Hip Hop Caucus Iraq Veterans Against the War - Books Not Bombs

First and foremost to my African-American and Latino brothers and sisters, but also to my progressive and faith communities:

It is time for African-American and Latino leaders in this country to establish a stronger, more unified voice in the movement to end the war in Iraq.  The disproportionate impact of war and war spending on communities of color needs to be a central discussion within the peace movement and among our legislators.

The Hip Hop Caucus has dedicated the majority of its efforts over the past year and a half to fighting for justice for Katrina survivors and we will continue our work in the Gulf Coast.   However, it has become clear to me that as long as Congress continues to fund this war, adequate funding for Gulf Coast rebuilding wont become a priority.  It is time for the the struggles for peace abroad and peace at home to unite.  The struggle of Katrina survivors is tied to the struggle of the Iraqi people and our movements must come to reflect this.

As a young voice of conscience and the leader of the Hip Hop Caucus, I am appealing to all African-American and Latino leaders to please join me on March 1st , to discuss how we can galvanize our communities and call for an immediate end to the war in Iraq.

The first meeting of the Race, Class and Out of Iraq Coordinating Committee will brief congressional staff and national leaders on the "Make Hip Hop Not War" tour and seek broad involvement by leaders inside and outside of Washington, DC.  The "Make Hip Hop Not War" National Tour will launch on March 17th and run through April 21st.

This tour has emerged as a major moment for the peace movement.  To end this war, we have to bring new energy and new voices to the forefront.  The "Make Hip Hop Not War" Tour will begin to show the true political power of our Hip Hop communities and of our young people.

If we have a tour bus or a bus pass we are going to get around this country, because my friends, it is time to bring our troops home and end this horrible and unjust war.  But, I need your help and involvement to make this tour truly successful!

I look forward to meeting with you on March 1st.  If you cannot make this meeting please get in contact with me to get involved in this historic tour.

For future generations...

Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr. - President and CEO Hip Hop Caucus
