The 2005 Grammy ceremony was hosted by hip-hop rapper/singer/actress/ cover girl; beautiful Queen Latifah. The show, which was held at Staples Center, gave the ‘Queen’ room to shine and hopefully we will see her again next year in the same spot.

The big winner of the night was the late music icon Ray Charles. He won 8 catagories including ‘Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.

The manager of Ray Charles, Joe Adams accepted the award on Ray’s behalf. "We love you madly, passionately, in vigorously and continuously," Adams said, in accepting the awards.

Rapper/producer Kanye West, who had led all nominees going into the ceremony with 10 nominations, ended up with 3 Grammy’s. The Best Rap Album Grammy went to Kanye West for "The College Dropout."

Alicia Keys won for Best R&B Album for "The Diary of Alicia Keys“.

The Los Lonely Boys won a Grammy for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for – Heaven.

The Diary Of Alicia Keys Alicia Keys won Best R&B Album . Alicia Keys also took Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for If I Ain’t Got you, which she performed on the show.

Best Rap Solo Performance was taken by rap artist Jay-Z for 99 Problems.

Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group was taken by The Black Eyed Peas for Lets Get It Started, which also was performed on the show.

Best Rap/Sung Collaboration won by Yeah! By Usher Featuring Lil Jon & Ludacris.

Best Rap Song was taken by Jesus Walks by Miri Ben Ari (the hip-hop violinist), C. Smith & Kanye West, songwriters (Kanye West).

Best Rap Album was The College Dropout by Kanye West.

Even former president Bill Clinton got in the awards with a win in Best Spoken Word Album for the narrative of his book My Life.
