Legendary Bob Marley Honored with Jamaican Coin Print

The most widely known performer and legend of reggae music, Robert Nesta Marley, better known as Bob Marley is being honored by The Bank Of Jamaica with the issuing of commemorative gold and silver coins. Bob Marley is well loved worldwide and remains one of Jamaica's most beloved national heroes.

The limited edition of 1,000 coins, which feature the singer's dread-locked likeness, are being produced by the British Royal Mint and are being sold for $100 (£56) each.

The Bank Of Jamaica spokeswoman Jacqueline Morgan says, "We''ve received quite a bit of interest already." The coins were intended to mark the 60th anniversary of Marley's birth, which was celebrated in 2005, but the bank is just now offering them for sale.

This is the second time the bank has issued coins bearing Marley's likeness the coins commemorating his 50th birthday have completely sold out.

Marley died of cancer at the age of 36 on May 11, 1981. and remains one of Jamaica's most beloved national heroes.
