The Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory kicks off a 5-day Educational Hip-Hop Dance Convention featuring NY's best Hip-Hop Dance Talent.

The Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting hip-hop dance education, has geared up with GuamChic Promotions, BBoyNYC and Zebulon Marketing to bring the ultimate hip-hop dance event of the year, The NY Hip-Hop Dance Convention, focusing on promoting hip-hop dance education and the underground dance artists of New York City!

Scheduled during Hip-Hop’s official history month, November 2006, The NY Hip-Hop Dance convention will be the largest five-day urban performing arts convention of its kind. The dedicated team of grassroots organizations include BLADE Dance Entertainment, Amount Boyz Entertainment, Crazy Cee Productions, NYC Arts Cypher of Staten Island, Footnote Films, ACE Productions, SOUL Productions, Hip-Hop Dance Magazine, El Grito de Poetas and SWEAT Dance have organized a unique event that caters to all hip-hop enthusiasts showcasing the art of B-Boying, professional modern day hip-hop dance choreography, the pioneers of DJing, urban poetry, and hip-hop education through workshops and discussion panels.

Proceeds from The NY Hip-Hop Dance Convention will benefit The Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory, a two-year certificate granting educational dance institution based in New York City. Students of HDC study a comprehensive curriculum including elements of hip-hop movement, choreography, dance/music theory, hip-hop history, anatomy, dance kinesiology, and health & nutrition. HDC is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a not-for-profit arts service organization.

Artistic Director of The Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory, Safi Thomas, says The NY Hip-Hop Dance Convention is “a declaration of unity, love, and respect of the hip-hop diaspora. It is a culmination of all that is the evolution of hip-hop, both as a culture and an art form. It is a prelude to an educational revolution that shows the viability and intricacy of hip-hop from its humble beginnings to its worldwide explosion. The convention is a catalyst for change."

Event Chair for the convention, Tricia Santos, agrees with Safi in stating that the purpose behind The NY Hip-Hop Dance Convention is to “promote, inspire, and educate dancers and hip-hop dance enthusiasts about the hip-hop culture and how it relates to dance.”

Robert Betancourt of B-Boy NYC states that “although [we are] asked to be a part of many programs involving hip-hop dance, we finally feel there is an outlet that will not exploit the culture, but rather embrace it through dance.”

The five day convention will take place from November 1st – November 5th 2006 in New York City. Each day will focus on a different aspect of hip-hop dance and will be featured at the world famous Apollo Theater in Harlem, and Sony Music Studios.
