Charges For Hip-Hop's Dr Dre Attacker Print

Jimmy James Johnson, the man who allegedly punched hip-hop / rap producer Dr. Dre after asking for his autograph during a taping of the Vibe Awards show on Nov. 15th last year; will stand trial for assault.

Superior Court Judge James Dabney found sufficient evidence to try 26-year-old Johnson for assault. The judges ruling came down Friday but no trial date was set.

The attack set off a chair throwing brawl that spread through the crowd at the awards.

Johnson, who has pleaded not guilty, was allegedly stabbed by rap artist and member of the hip-hop camp G-Unit; Young Buck after Dr. Dre was struck.

Rapper Young Buck, whose given name is David Darnell Brown, has pleaded not guilty and is free on bail awaiting trial.

Dr. Dre, the veteran producer and rap star, was about to receive a lifetime achievement award when he was punched. Dr. Dre, whose given name is Andre Young, is 40.
