DMX the hip-hop rap artist and actor was charged last night with driving with a suspended license after he was involved in a slow-moving collision on the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx, police officials said.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was at the wheel of a 2005 Dodge Magnum, traveling south in heavy traffic at about 8 p.m., when his car struck the rear of another vehicle. That vehicle was pushed forward into the rear of a city police squad car from the 46th Precinct, the police authorities said

DMX was with a woman and two children in the Dodge, and no one in that vehicle or in the squad car was injured. A woman in the other vehicle complained of minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, the police said.

DMX has had many run-ins with the police, several involving motor vehicle violations. In December, DMX pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment and driving under the influence of drugs at Kennedy Airport when he drove an S.U.V. with lights and sirens like the ones used by the police, stopped another vehicle, claimed to be a federal agent, and then sped away.
